Fruit
One of the best food groups for obtaining the right amount of fiber in your diet is fruit. Not only is it high in fiber it also contains many vitamins and minerals and there are many fruits that contain high levels of antioxidants, which are very good for boosting your immune system. The most beneficial way of getting fiber from fruit is to use only fresh rather than tinned or any type of fruit that is processed. The best way of getting the full amount of fiber from fruit is to eat it with the skins on, where possible. Although fruit is very healthy, you have to be a little bit careful, especially if you happen to be on a calorie controlled diet and also trying to eat plenty of fiber.
Fruit can be very deceiving in its calorie content, eating a medium size apple for example could set you back seventy or eighty calories and the biggest culprit for this is dried fruit. Just when you think you are being really good by eating healthy, you look at the packet and see the amount of calories it contains, and faint with the shock. Even eating only a medium sized bag of dried fruit, could use up half your daily calorie allowance, (depending on the diet) but this type of fruit is excellent for fiber, its just a matter of eating sensible amounts.
