Following a High Fiber Diet When You Don't Like Vegetables

A Picky Eater's Guide to Fiber

People have to follow a high fiber diet for a number of reasons. For me, I've been seeing a gastroenterologist for several months to determine the root cause of my anemia. Along the way, I've had a number of invasive tests, but we still don't know why  I'm anemic. After my colonoscopy, though, the doctor did discover a tiny hyperplastic polyp and both internal and external hemorrhoids . His prescription: a high fiber diet.

The problem for me: I dislike most vegetables, which comprise most of the better sources of fiber.

According to my doctor, I should be consuming 30 grams of fiber each day, which was a bit more than the 20 grams I'd been trying to consume before I had him clarify the amount for me.
